I have decided to change my flock over to Katahdin hair sheep instead of the Suffolks. My number one reason is I find shearing so time consuming and difficult. I really love my girls and Warfy too, and they all had twins so they are very productive - but I think the Katahdins will be better suited to our homestead.

I met a wonderful lady who has really helped me get started with the Katahdins, she sold me two purebred Katahdins (Peaches & Freckles) who each has pure Katahdin twins.

I had also bought two Katahdin/Dorper ewes (Lucy & Emma) from her, one who is due sometime in August for 3/4 Katahdin lambs.
I am very impressed with the mothering skills of my new Katahdin ewes. I will be keeping one ewe lamb (Cinnamon Girl) to add to the flock and will use her twin ram lamb (Earl) for this fall's breeding to everybody but his mom and sis. I have a Katahdin ram lamb reserved for next spring to be our herd sire.

I am excited for the change, the more research I do on the Katahdins the more I think they are perfect for us.
